Natural turf is far cheaper to install (around $14–$25 per m² laid) but has ongoing costs — water, mowing, feeding. Artificial grass costs more upfront (commonly $60–$100+ per m² installed) but almost nothing to run. Over 8–10 years the totals get closer; which wins depends on the area and how you use it.
This is the big one out here. Artificial grass gets hot — in full Western Sydney summer sun it can become uncomfortable to walk on barefoot, where real turf stays cool. If the area is for kids and pets in full sun, that matters. In shaded spots, narrow side passages or areas where nothing will grow, artificial grass is brilliant and always green.
Artificial grass suits shady courtyards, dog runs, rooftop and low-use areas where real grass struggles. Real turf suits open, sunny family lawns where the cool, soft surface and natural feel win.
