Retaining walls
A retaining wall is structural. Built right, it turns a useless slope into flat, usable yard for years; built badly, it bulges, cracks and slumps. We build with the correct materials, proper footings, drainage behind the wall, and engineering certification where the height or load requires it.
Water building up behind a wall is what blows them out — especially in clay. We install agg-drain and backfill so water gets away, which is the difference between a wall that lasts decades and one that fails.
Good to know
Lower walls often don’t, but taller walls (commonly over ~600–1000mm) or walls carrying load usually need engineering and may need approval. We’ll tell you what your wall needs.
It depends on height, load and look — timber sleepers for lower natural walls, concrete sleepers for strength and low maintenance, block for height and rendered finishes. We’ll advise.
Almost always poor drainage and footings. Water pressure behind the wall in clay soil pushes it out. We drain and footing them properly so that doesn’t happen.
